In 2024, several African countries grappled with macroeconomic challenges, including inflation and currency fluctuations, which affected the wealth of billionaires.

This shift has led to adjustments in the wealth and ranking of billionaires by the end of the first quarter compared to the beginning of the year.

South African billionaire Johann Rupert started the year as Africa’s richest person on the Forbes list, surpassing Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote.

Initially, Rupert’s net worth stood at $10.3 billion, exceeding Dangote’s $9.5 billion as of January 2, 2023.

However, recent data indicates fluctuations in the rankings of billionaires, influenced by global trends, market conditions, and economic policies.

While most changes have been moderate, some are notable, such as Dangote’s $4 billion gain since the beginning of the year and Issad Rebrab & Family’s significant loss, causing them to drop out of the top 10.

According to Billionaire Africa, Dangote has reclaimed his position as the wealthiest individual in Africa.

These adjustments in net worth are based on data from the Forbes Billionaire Index, covering the period from the beginning of the year to the end of the first quarter of 2024.
