Under the banner of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), workers have mobilized to demonstrate against the tariff hike affecting Band A consumers.
This nationwide protest by organized labor aims to challenge both the electricity tariff increase and the removal of subsidies in the power sector by the Federal Government.
The protest action is anticipated to result in the closure of NERC’s headquarters in Abuja, as well as the Ministry of Power and regional offices of electricity distribution companies.
It is worth noting that the NERC had announced the tariff hike for Band A consumers during a press briefing in Abuja on April 3, disclosing that affected consumers would now pay N225 per kilowatt-hour, a significant increase from the previous rate of N68/kWh
