the leader of David’s Christian Centre, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has cautioned women against relying on men for financial support, stressing that such expectations are rooted in culture rather than scripture.

The clergyman explained that the Bible emphasizes the principle of working to earn a living, not depending on others to meet one’s needs. He noted that women who depend on men for basic expenses, such as food or minor indulgences, diminish their self-worth and the dignity of their families.

Okonkwo further highlighted that individuals raised by supportive parents, with access to quality education and good career opportunities, are unlikely to rely on men for survival. He maintained that the notion of men being obligated to provide for women is a cultural construct that does not align with biblical teachings.

Emphasizing his point, he said women should reflect on how they sustained themselves before marriage or romantic relationships, questioning the rationale behind shifting responsibilities to men. He added that unhealthy dependence often leads to women being undervalued or mistreated in relationships, particularly when they accept support in exchange for trivial benefits.
