Speaking at a media briefing held on Saturday evening, NTSB board member Michael Graham outlined the ongoing efforts to investigate the incident and determine its cause.
Graham revealed that initial reports indicated wintry weather conditions as one of the potential contributing factors to the crash. The helicopter, operated by Orbic Air LLC, had two crew members and four passengers, all of whom suffered fatal injuries. Despite the absence of cockpit voice recorders or flight data recorders on the aircraft, the NTSB vowed to thoroughly examine its airworthiness, maintenance, operations, meteorological conditions, and air traffic control interactions.
Parties involved in the investigation include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Orbic Air LLC, with the French aviation accident investigation agency BEA serving as an accredited representative due to the aircraft manufacturer’s location. The NTSB plans to conduct aerial mapping of the wreckage and gather documentation from various sources, including flight crew records and maintenance logs.
While specific details about the passengers were not disclosed, Graham assured that information would be released through the coroner’s office in due course. The NTSB anticipates providing a preliminary report within a few weeks, with a comprehensive investigation expected to last 12 to 24 months before a final report is issued.
