In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Osoba for his lifelong commitment to activism and academia. Osoba retired as a history lecturer from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1991 and has since made his home in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The president highlighted Osoba’s invaluable contributions to knowledge and his role in shaping Nigeria’s constitutional history, particularly his involvement in the drafting of the 1979 Constitution, which set the groundwork for the Second Republic.

Tinubu also noted Osoba’s influential minority report, which recommended key constitutional changes, including the removal of immunity clauses for top government officials and lowering the minimum age for office eligibility to 30—proposals that were unfortunately rejected by the military government at the time.

The president expressed gratitude for Osoba’s patriotism and tireless service to the nation, wishing him many more years of health and continued contributions to Nigeria’s development.
