Oyo Assembly Lawmakers Back Speaker Ogundoyin’s 2027 Governorship Ambition
According to Ireporter Online, members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have unanimously endorsed Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin as their preferred candidate to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced during a plenary session on Wednesday, highlighting early political alignment ahead of the state’s next gubernatorial race. The motion was presented by Deputy Speaker Muhammad Fadeyi, representing Ona Ara State Constituency, who emphasized the lawmakers’ commitment to mobilizing residents statewide in support of Ogundoyin’s ambition.
Fadeyi described Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East State Constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party, as a stabilizing force within the legislative arm of government. He further noted that the Speaker has displayed leadership qualities capable of sustaining governance beyond the current administration and possesses the competence and political experience necessary to succeed Makinde in 2027.
Majority Leader Sanjo Adedoyin also praised Ogundoyin’s leadership, describing him as a “leader who has demonstrated capacity beyond expectations,” whose track record in the Assembly positions him as a credible gubernatorial contender.
Several other lawmakers echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Ogundoyin’s tenure as Speaker has brought stability and progress to the Assembly, making him well-suited for the state’s highest office. They pledged their full support for his governorship aspiration and vowed to work towards his emergence in 2027.
This endorsement represents one of the earliest formal political declarations in the run-up to the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, positioning Speaker Ogundoyin as a key contender to succeed Governor Makinde at the end of his tenure.
