PDP Crisis In Ondo State: Clash Of Opinions As SWC And NWC Disagree On Chairman’s Suspension (Details)
Nigerians are closely watching the unfolding drama within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, as the State Working Committee (SWC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) clash over the suspension of the state chairman, Fatai Adams, for alleged anti-party activities…..CONTINUE READING
The NWC, in a strongly worded statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, declared the suspension null and void, citing violations of the PDP Constitution. Ologunagba emphasized that no State Working Committee has the authority to suspend a State Chairman without due recourse to the NWC, and warned of disciplinary actions against those involved in the “illegal act.”
In a swift response, the SWC members, through the state publicity secretary, Kennedy Peretei, expressed embarrassment over Ologunagba’s statement, asserting that it goes against the amended PDP Constitution. Peretei argued that all levels of the party have the power to discipline erring members of their executive, including the State Chairman.
According to Peretei, Fatai Adams, as a member of the SWC, can be sanctioned for his alleged activities with a “flagrant disregard for SWC decisions.” The SWC reiterated that Adams’ suspension remains valid, emphasizing that nine out of the eleven committee members signed the suspension letter, indicating a lack of confidence in Adams’ leadership.
Peretei further pointed out that Ologunagba’s statement was misleading and lacked up-to-date information about the party in Ondo State. He asserted that Ologunagba’s personal opinion should not be misconstrued as the provisions of the PDP Constitution.
As the PDP crisis in Ondo State deepens, political observers and party members are anxiously waiting to see how the national leadership will resolve this internal dispute that threatens the stability of the party in the state. The conflicting statements from the SWC and NWC highlight the challenges of maintaining cohesion within political parties, especially as power struggles intensify.
