Taking to Instagram, the Portugese coach explained that contractual issues and financial questions led to the break down of talks with the NFF.

He wrote, “After several weeks of negotiations, during which there was news from the Nigerian Football Federation, that I would be the coach of their team, from the end of Afcon 2021, a fact that I never confirmed, and these did not materialize due to disagreement regarding contrarian clauses and financial matters.”

Peseiro, if he had taken over, was expected to oversee the World Cup play-off with Ghana and lead Nigeria to the finals, in the event that they qualify.
