Plateau Government Releases New Update On Curfew Following Jos K!ll!ngs
The Plateau State Government has announced a partial easing of the 48-hour curfew earlier enforced in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area, following a deadly attack that shook the community. According to Ireporter Online, the decision was approved by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang as part of efforts to gradually restore normalcy.
Under the revised arrangement, the curfew will now take effect daily from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m., allowing residents to carry out their lawful activities between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. starting from April 1, 2026. Authorities indicated that security operatives will remain actively deployed across the area during this period to maintain order and prevent further unrest.
The government has called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while ongoing measures are intensified to ensure lasting peace in the troubled community. In an official statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, appreciation was extended to citizens for their patience, cooperation, and resilience throughout the enforcement of the curfew.
The statement reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that the gradual relaxation reflects improved security assessments in the area.
Tensions escalated in Angwan Rukuba following a deadly attack reportedly carried out by suspected terrorists disguised in military uniforms. The assailants allegedly stormed the community on Sunday evening, opening fire on residents and leaving several people dead, sparking widespread fear.
An eyewitness account revealed that the attackers arrived around 8 p.m. and began shooting indiscriminately in what was described as a busy market setting. In response to the incident, authorities swiftly imposed the curfew to contain the situation and prevent further violence.
