Police Arrest Seven Over Alleged Plan To Disrupt Ekiti APC Primary

The State Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday, stating that the suspects were apprehended at about 9pm on Thursday at Onikoyi Hotel, Ikun-Ekiti, following credible intelligence on their movement into the state.

He described the arrested individuals as armed hoodlums found in possession of dangerous weapons, while confirming that other members of the group escaped using three vehicles.

The suspects were identified as Adekunle Stephen, Boluwaji Ishola, Adepoju Adebayo, Oluwatobi Adeoluwa, Akintunde Emmanuel, Ibitola Babatope, and Adewale Makanjuola.

Items recovered from them included one Beretta pistol, two pump-action rifles, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition, four live cartridges, substances suspected to be charms, two Apple laptops, and a Honda Accord vehicle.

Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that the suspects were hired by a serving member of the House of Representatives, with the group allegedly confessing that they were brought into Ekiti to destabilise the APC primary election earlier scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026.

The police commissioner confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the gang as well as their alleged sponsor, adding that all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

He further assured that the command remains committed to maintaining peace and preventing violence before, during, and after the rescheduled APC primary election.
