Police Arrest Suspect Linked To Vigilante Member Death Attack On Sanusi Entourage
Police operatives in Kano State have apprehended a suspect identified as Usman Sagiru in connection with the killing of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, and an attack on the entourage of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman, sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical care at the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano.
According to the Kano State Police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna, the incident took place while the local security personnel were providing protection for Emir Sanusi II’s entourage as they returned from the Eid prayer ground after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers….READ MORE….
Haruna explained that Sagiru’s accomplices remain at large, and the police command has initiated an investigation. The Shamakin Kano, Wada Isyaku, has also been invited for questioning.
Detailing the incident, Haruna stated:
“While dispersing from the Eid prayer ground, Usman Sagiru and others, who are currently at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, leading to his death. Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital. The attack occurred as the vigilantes were safeguarding Emir Sanusi’s entourage.”
The police further confirmed that the suspect, Usman Sagiru, aged 20, from Sharifai Quarters, was arrested following the attack, which occurred after the Eid prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025, around 12:40 pm. The investigation is ongoing, and the Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, has been summoned for further interrogation.
The police spokesperson also reiterated the enforcement of the ban on all forms of Durbar celebrations, warning that violators would face strict legal consequences.
“Additionally, all forms of thuggery (Daba) will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in activities that may disrupt public peace or lead to a breakdown of law and order will be apprehended and prosecuted,” Haruna stated.
The police appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement authorities to maintain peace and security in the area.
