The Nigeria Police Force has again summoned former presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, for questioning over fresh allegations in which his name has been linked.

According to a letter dated August 1, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede, Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit at Force Headquarters, Abuja, Sowore is expected to appear before a police panel on Monday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. The invitation refers to matters related to a report filed on July 31, 2025, where Sowore’s name “featured prominently.”

“In view of the foregoing, and in the spirit of fair hearing, you are kindly requested to interview the undersigned through the SP Abdulhafiz Garba, at the Monitoring Unit, First Floor, Force Headquarters Abuja… to shed more light on the allegations,” the letter stated.

Sources cited by Sahara Reporters indicated that the invitation is linked to a series of recent investigative publications alleging that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, sanctioned irregular promotions for certain female officers reportedly involved in romantic relationships with him. Sowore, through Sahara Reporters, is believed to have published exposés detailing the scandal.

This is not the first time the activist has clashed with the police. In February 2025, Sowore was arraigned in court following allegations that he illegally recorded police officers allegedly extorting motorists on the road leading to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

As of press time, Sowore has not publicly confirmed whether he will honour the latest invitation.
