Presidency: No Path to Presidency for Peter Obi in Any Party

According to Ireporter Online, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed the likelihood of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, securing a presidential ticket in any major party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on a live television interview, Bwala asserted that Obi, who contested under the Labour Party in 2023 and finished second with over six million votes, would struggle to clinch the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), or African Democratic Congress (ADC). He suggested that Obi might also fail to secure a vice-presidential slot.

Bwala accused the 2023 Labour Party candidate of employing “dangerous rhetoric” to sway the church and the South-East electorate, claiming his support base was built on sentiments rather than policy-driven governance. He maintained that this approach had cost Obi more than half of his political following.

He also predicted a significant increase in Tinubu’s votes in the South-East during the next election, estimating gains of up to six times the president’s 2023 figures. Bwala further stated that the South-South would no longer be a stronghold for Obi, pointing out that most governors in the region now back the president.

“Nigerians’ eyes are open,” Bwala said, adding that the era of winning elections through divisive campaigning was over.
