Presidential Power Moves: Tinubu Unveils New Southeast NASC Commissioner at FEC Gathering
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, chaired a high-level meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where key national matters were deliberated.
In a solemn opening to the session, the President administered the oath of office to Mr. Nnana Uzor Kalu, who was officially sworn in as the new commissioner representing the Southeast geopolitical zone in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC). This move reaffirms the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional representation across Nigeria’s diverse regions.
Shortly after the swearing-in, the council observed a minute of silence to honour the memory of the late Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, a former cabinet member and military administrator. Olubolade, who passed away on May 11, 2025, served in several high-profile roles under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, including as Minister of Special Duties, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and Minister of Police Affairs. His military service also included a tenure as administrator of Bayelsa State during the regime of the late General Sani Abacha.
According to iReporter Online, Thursday’s meeting was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Didi Walson-Jack, along with several cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
The session marked the first full Federal Executive Council meeting since the special sitting of July 17, which was convened in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13 at the age of 82.
Government insiders also confirmed that major infrastructure and fiscal decisions, including the approval of ₦1.6 trillion for the second phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, were tabled during the session—highlighting the administration’s continued focus on nationwide development and connectivity.
