2026 UTME: Woman Collapses, D!es While Escorting Daughter To JAMB Exam Centre
According to Ireporter Online, tragedy struck in Ilara-Mokin community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday when a woman, identified as Oluwasola Adebayo, reportedly slumped and died while accompanying her daughter to a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination centre during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The incident, which occurred in the agrarian community, left residents and sympathisers in shock as what was meant to be a routine academic outing turned fatal. It was gathered that the deceased had escorted her daughter to the examination venue when she suddenly developed health complications shortly after arriving at the centre.
An eyewitness, Abiola, disclosed that the woman began to feel weak moments after getting to the location before collapsing unexpectedly. Despite efforts by those present to revive her, she was confirmed dead at the scene.
Sources further revealed that the deceased had earlier informed acquaintances of her intention to accompany her daughter to the examination centre. At the time of the incident, her daughter was said to be inside the examination hall writing the UTME and remained unaware of the tragedy unfolding outside.
The development attracted a large crowd of sympathisers, many of whom expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, stated that the command had received the report and responded appropriately. He noted that the police expressed concern over the incident and had contacted the deceased’s family.
He further disclosed that after necessary verification, the remains of the deceased were released to one Mr. Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion in Akure. The police extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to remain calm.
The incident has plunged the Ilara-Mokin community into mourning, with residents still struggling to come to terms with the sudden death during what was expected to be a significant academic milestone for the family.
