“Produce The Evidence!” – Akpabio Dares Media Over Alleged Anti-Trump Remark
According to Ireporter Online, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has firmly denied claims that he made a disparaging comment against former U.S. President Donald Trump. The Senate President described the report as a deliberate act of misinformation aimed at causing diplomatic tension and damaging his reputation.
The controversy arose after a media outlet published a quote purportedly from Akpabio, in which he allegedly told Trump to focus on America’s internal issues instead of commenting on Nigeria’s affairs. However, Akpabio, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, dismissed the publication as “malicious, baseless, and entirely fabricated.”
In a statement released by his media office, Akpabio demanded that the outlet produce verifiable evidence proving that he ever made such a remark, either publicly or privately. Eyiboh noted that the purported statement—claiming Akpabio said, “The killing is taking place in Nigeria not in the USA; Trump should focus on the US”—was a complete falsehood intended to stir diplomatic misunderstanding.
He further described the act as “digital recklessness” orchestrated by individuals seeking to incite friction between the Nigerian Senate President and the former American leader, as well as between Nigeria and its foreign allies. The statement also condemned the use of an unrelated photograph showing Akpabio at an official function to lend credibility to the fabricated post.
Emphasizing Akpabio’s commitment to international diplomacy, Eyiboh affirmed that the Senate President holds Trump in high esteem and would never interfere in the domestic matters of another nation. He assured Nigerians and the international community that Akpabio remains devoted to transparency, truth, and responsible communication in all official engagements.
The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard the false report and remain wary of misinformation designed to undermine trust in leadership and international relations.
