Protesters Demand-Resignation Of APC National Women-Leader Over Alleged-Mismanagement

A group of female protesters made their voices heard at the All Progressives Congress (APC) headquarters in Abuja on Friday, calling for the resignation of Dr. Mary Alile-Idele, the National Women Leader of the party. The protesters accused Alile-Idele of negligence, pursuing personal interests, and mishandling donations meant for party members.

During their demonstration, the protesters sang solidarity songs and displayed banners with messages such as ‘Enough is Enough!’ and ‘APC Women Leader Must Go’. They urged First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje to remove Alile-Idele from her position, alleging that she consistently undermines female party members.

The call for Alile-Idele’s resignation gained momentum after allegations surfaced that she diverted a portion of 24,000 wrappers donated by the First Lady and her delegation. The protesters claimed that only 9,000 out of the donated fabrics were distributed, raising questions about the whereabouts of the remaining items.

Rebecca Sheneni, the Coordinator of Concerned APC Women leading the protest, accused Alile-Idele of prioritizing her personal interests over the party’s agenda. She criticized the national women leader for extensively promoting her non-governmental organization instead of focusing on APC initiatives.

In response to the allegations, Alile-Idele has yet to comment. However, Patricia Okuebor-Benson, the women leader for Imo State, defended her, stating that the accusations were baseless and that most states had received their allocated fabrics.

Meanwhile, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, a former lawmaker and women leader in Lagos, declined to comment on the issue, citing her absence from Abuja and lack of awareness regarding the developments.

The controversy surrounding Alile-Idele’s leadership highlights internal tensions within the APC and raises questions about accountability and transparency in managing party resources.
