Speaking during the launch of the Leadership and National Cohesion (LNC) Course 2/2024 in Abuja, Ethan, a member of the Board of Trustees at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peace Keeping Centre (MLAILPKC), underscored the importance of collective action in overcoming these challenges.
The program, organized in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Japanese Government, aims to foster effective leadership.
He highlighted that nations without strong national cohesion often experience social fragmentation, weakened national identity, and economic struggles.
“Current challenges, from insecurity to economic inequality and social injustice, demand effective leadership and collaborative efforts,” he stated.
“Building a shared identity, fostering social inclusion, and addressing the varied needs of our citizens are vital components of this process.”
Ethan pointed out that effective leadership offers the vision and guidance necessary to manage the complexities of contemporary society, while also inspiring citizens to pursue common objectives and upholding accountability and good governance.
He reiterated that Nigeria’s rich diversity should not only be viewed as a challenge but rather as a strategic advantage that can enhance the resilience and creativity of its people in the quest for a prosperous nation.
National cohesion, he noted, serves as the glue that binds a nation’s fabric together, uniting its people amidst diversity.
“As emerging leaders, you play a crucial role in fostering peace, stability, and development within your respective organizations,” he urged.
“You must adopt a culture of effective leadership and act as agents of national cohesion.”
Maj.-Gen. Ademola Adedoja, Commandant of MLAILPKC, remarked that this course represents a strategic investment in cultivating effective leaders and promoting peace and stability in Nigeria.
He further asserted that effective leadership and national cohesion are essential drivers of progress and prosperity, emphasizing that their absence could lead to stagnation, division, and instability, thus undermining the nation’s potential.
