The announcement was made by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Muhammad Bello, at a press conference on Friday. According to Bello, this decision follows productive discussions between the governor and representatives from academic unions, who had presented five major demands.

While some of the requests will be addressed gradually, the governor responded promptly to the issue of retirement age, signing Executive Order Number 2 of 2024 on Thursday. This new order directly impacts institutions like Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria, the College of Education Gidan Waya, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, where staff can now work until 65, aligning with national standards.

Bello stressed that this policy would be implemented immediately across all state-owned institutions, marking a significant step toward improving staff welfare.

The Commissioner also shared that the governor had agreed to address additional concerns, including outstanding salaries and welfare benefits for staff, with plans for staggered payments due to the state’s financial constraints. Furthermore, the governor has committed to improving funding for the institutions and revising the Treasury Single Account (TSA) system, ensuring a fair revenue-sharing formula starting next year.

This action reflects Governor Sani’s dedication to strengthening education in Kaduna State and addressing long-standing issues within the sector.
