Samuel Ortom Calls for Unity Among Benue PDP Members Amid Tensions
Bid to restore harmony within the Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Governor Samuel Ortom has urged all party members, particularly his supporters and those of Senator Gabriel Suswam, to set aside their differences and work together for the party’s common good.
Speaking in Makurdi, Ortom emphasized the importance of unity, especially with the upcoming Local Government and State Congresses. His call comes in the wake of escalating tensions following the recent Ward Congresses, which saw disagreements between supporters of Ortom and Suswam. These disputes have reportedly led to the suspension and counter-suspension of various party leaders and members.
Through a statement issued by his Media Aide, Terver Akase, Ortom highlighted his long-standing friendship with Senator Suswam, assuring that both leaders would continue to find peaceful resolutions to any political disagreements. He underscored that differences in opinion are natural in politics and can contribute to the democratic process when managed properly.
“Senator Suswam and I have always maintained a strong bond of friendship and mutual respect within the PDP,” Ortom stated. “We are committed to resolving any issues that may arise in a way that benefits the party and its members.”
Ortom also called on all PDP stakeholders in Benue State to remain focused on the party’s goals, commending members across the state’s 23 local government areas for their peaceful conduct during the Ward Congresses. He urged them to continue this approach in the upcoming congresses.
Additionally, the former governor encouraged party members to support the State Caretaker Committee established by the National Working Committee, emphasizing its critical role in ensuring the success of the party’s forthcoming activities.
