Senator Monday Okpebholo’s Motorcade Attacked: One Policeman Dead, Several InjuredIn a shocking incident this afternoon, the motorcade of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, came under a brutal attack. The assailants have been identified as members of the Edo State Security Network and alleged thugs sponsored by the Edo state government, reportedly led by Francis Inegbeniki.
The unprovoked attack resulted in severe injuries to three mobile policemen attached to Senator Okpebholo’s security detail, with one officer tragically succumbing to bullet wounds. The senator himself is currently admitted to an undisclosed hospital in Benin, where he is receiving medical attention. Other members of his entourage, who were also victims of the assault, are being treated in various hospitals across Benin City.
Godswill Inegbe, Legislative Aide to Senator Monday Okpebholo (Media & Communication), confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in the political landscape of Edo State.
The APC has called for an immediate investigation into the attack and urged the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident underscores the urgent need for security measures to protect political candidates and ensure a peaceful election process in Edo State.
