Sh*ck In Delta As Policemen Reportedly Sh**t Another Man
According to Ireporter Online, tension has gripped the Okudjere-Ovu community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State after operatives attached to the Orerokpe Police Division allegedly shot an unarmed man during a stop-and-search operation.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday evening when the officers, reportedly working alongside anti-cult operatives, intercepted the victim on suspicion of being in possession of hard drugs. The situation, however, took a violent turn when the man was allegedly accused of drug possession and subsequently shot in the right leg.
The development has further heightened public anger in the state, coming on the heels of another controversial incident in Effurun where a police officer was accused of killing a man identified as Oghenemine Ogidi.
Eyewitness accounts and a video circulating from the scene showed sympathisers attempting to assist the injured victim, while the operatives were said to have fled the area amid fears of possible retaliation from angry youths.
A civil rights organisation, the Initiative for Social Rights Concerns and Advancements, also known as “No Justice, No Peace,” strongly condemned the shooting, describing it as unacceptable and calling for urgent accountability.
The group stressed that the responsibility of the police is to safeguard lives and property rather than engage in acts of brutality against citizens. Its National Coordinator, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, urged the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, to ensure a thorough investigation and identify those involved.
The organisation further described the incident as “unfortunate and unprofessional,” warning that continued cases of alleged police misconduct could deepen public distrust and unrest in the state.
