Sh*ck Move: Manchester United Eye Carrick For Permanent Manager Role

According to Ireporter Online, senior officials at Manchester United are preparing to recommend Michael Carrick to minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as the club’s next permanent manager, following his impressive spell in interim charge.

Carrick, 44, has emerged as the leading candidate after guiding the team back into Champions League qualification contention. Although the club initially intended to wait until the end of the season before appointing a successor to Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed in January, the decision-making process has now been fast-tracked.

Reports indicate that chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are strongly in support of Carrick and are expected to formally present their recommendation to Ratcliffe this week. Should approval be granted, negotiations for a permanent appointment are expected to begin immediately.

Carrick’s performances in charge have significantly boosted his case, with 10 wins in 15 matches and only two defeats. Under his leadership, Manchester United climbed from seventh to third in the Premier League, securing a return to Europe’s elite competition. Since taking over on 13 January, the club has accumulated 33 league points, the highest in the division over that period.

His tenure started strongly with victories over major rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, part of a four-match winning streak. Although a seven-game unbeaten run ended in March, key wins against Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Liverpool helped seal Champions League qualification.

United had been in turmoil prior to Amorim’s departure amid disagreements over tactics and results, which strained relations with club leadership. Carrick, who also previously served as interim manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s exit in 2021, is said to have restored stability within the squad and earned praise for his focus on youth development and long-term planning, with several players reportedly endorsing his potential appointment.

While other managerial options were considered, Thomas Tuchel has opted to remain with England, and Luis Enrique remains committed to Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United will conclude their Premier League campaign against Nottingham Forest on May 17 before travelling to Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day of the season on May 24, with a final decision on the managerial position expected shortly thereafter.
