The outgoing Chairman of the Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, John Gabaya, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move described as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to reports, the announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Ernest Agada. The chairman explained that his decision was driven by the need to enhance development in the council through stronger collaboration with the Federal Government.

Gabaya stated that his alignment with the APC would provide a platform to promote peace, unity, and sustainable growth within the Bwari Area Council. He noted that the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and was also guided by constitutional provisions regulating political party affiliations.

Elected in 2019 under the PDP, Gabaya is expected to conclude his second term in office by June. He is currently positioning himself to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives representing the AMAC/Bwari constituency in the 2027 elections.

While expressing gratitude to supporters who contributed to his emergence as chairman under the PDP, Gabaya emphasized that his defection should not be interpreted as an act of hostility toward his former party members. He acknowledged their sacrifices and dedication over the years.

The council chairman also expressed optimism about the forthcoming elections, calling for peaceful and credible processes. He further affirmed that the Bwari Area Council would rally significant support for President Bola Tinubu in the next electoral cycle.
