Youth Unemployment: FG Turns To Agriculture, Trains 541 In Advanced Skills

to tackle unemployment and promote self-reliance.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre in Jos, Plateau State, Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, represented by Permanent Secretary Olubunmi Olusanya, highlighted the program’s focus on key areas such as cassava processing, beekeeping, and fishery.

The initiative, targeting participants from the North East, North West, and North Central regions, aims to equip youths with entrepreneurial and agricultural skills, encouraging them to become job creators.

“Our goal is for you to become employers of labor, not job seekers,” Olawande stated. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to youth development, promising to implement participants’ feedback and improve the program annually.

The minister emphasized that youth, comprising over 70% of Nigeria’s population, represent the nation’s future. “Investing in the youth is investing in Nigeria’s tomorrow,” he said.

The Adagwom of Jos Izere Chiefdom, Emmanuel Ajik, commended the government for its efforts and urged participants to utilize their training for national development, noting that no society can progress without empowering its youth.
