Shettima: We Will Not Abandon Families Of Fallen Heroes

According to Ireporter Online, Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured families of military and police personnel killed during a recent attack in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State that the Federal Government will not abandon them, pledging sustained support and care for those affected.

Shettima made the commitment while speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a condolence visit to the Kebbi State Government, stressing that the administration remains firmly dedicated to ensuring that the sacrifices of fallen security operatives are duly honoured and not in vain. He also extended the President’s condolences over the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of 11 security personnel, led to the destruction of communities, and included the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman Zuru, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on April 7.

The Vice President explained that President Tinubu had directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide relief materials to the bereaved families and displaced residents, noting that a federal delegation, including the NEMA Director-General, was deployed to ensure proper coordination of support efforts.

Reaffirming government’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel, Shettima emphasized that special attention would continue to be given to families of those who lost their lives in active service to the nation. He also offered prayers for the deceased, asking for divine mercy upon their souls and strength for the bereaved families and the people of Kebbi State.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, in his remarks, said security agencies in the state were intensifying efforts to tackle emerging threats, while noting improvements in operational response. He also appreciated the Federal Government’s show of solidarity and disclosed that the state had approved ₦60 million in support of the families of the slain officers, alongside resettlement efforts for displaced communities.

The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu Sami, also commended the Federal Government’s intervention and prayed for lasting peace in the state and across the country.

Shettima, in turn, praised Governor Idris for his infrastructural and educational achievements, describing his leadership style as inclusive and impactful, while also conveying President Tinubu’s condolences to the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, over the death of his sister.

The Vice President was accompanied on the visit by senior government officials, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, and the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, among others.
