The Abia State Government officially confirmed the devastating news on Monday, following a State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti.

During a press briefing, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, disclosed that the state government has taken swift measures to address the situation by deploying security agencies to the university to restore peace and order.

Kanu also urged students to prioritize their studies and abstain from engaging in violent activities.

He stated, “The state government has been made aware of the disturbances at Abia State University, Uturu, resulting in the loss of a student’s life. Immediate steps have been taken to quell the unrest and restore normalcy within the institution. Security agencies have been dispatched to Abia State University Uturu.”

Reports from PUNCH reveal heightened tensions within the university following the resurgence of violence between the rival cult factions, which tragically claimed the life of the 400-level student.

Witnesses recounted that members of a rival group targeted the victim within the university premises, leading to his untimely demise.

While the university administration has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, assured that the police are actively investigating the matter.
