Southeast Youth Leaders: “Here’s Why We Support Tinubu’s Government”
Coordinators of the first-ever national youth conference in the Southeast chapter have reaffirmed the support of youths in the region for the President Bola Tinubu administration.
According to them, youths of the Southeast will continue to uphold and support the ideals, programmes and projects of the current administration geared towards transforming and developing the country.
The team led by Uche Idechukuka, Chief Emeka Chigbo and coordinator in the diaspora, Comrade Gerald Emeka Obielum met on Saturday to brainstorm ahead of the national youth conference.
The meeting, which was attended by all the coordinators and officers of the Southern Youth Development Forum inc, resolved to join hands with the federal government to create an atmosphere of peace, stability and progress in Nigeria.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, they hailed Tinubu over his recent signing into law the bill to establish the Southeast Development Commission and the appointment of Igbo sons and daughters into his governnment, saying the gesture shows that the President is indeed a friend of the Southeast.
In a joint media chat at the weekend, Uche Idechukuka, an importer and CEO of Briben International LTD and Chief Chigbo hailed the President for appointing the Dave Umahi as Minister for Works.
He said, “We hereby express our desire to work for the unity and progress of Nigeria because it is in the best interest of all to come together for a sustainable growth.
“President Tiinubu recently signed into law the Southeast Development Commission has endeared him to the igbos and he is seen as a friend of the region. Today the Igbos generally are feeling that they are part of the current administration.
“For instance the minister of works is an Igbo man. We have a member of in the security council. Our people are everywhere in the government.
“As you all know the Igbo are some of the major importers in Nigeria and our relationship with the federal government through the custom is very cordial and it is hope our people will benefit more”.
Also speaking, Chief Chigbo said that Tinubu’s relationship with the Igbos dates back to when he was the governor of Lagos State.
“Tinubu as governor appointed an Igbo man into the State Executive Council without any form of discrimination. So naturally we are always with the man and we cannot abandon him now”.
While thanking President Tinubu, the Diaspora coordinator, Comrade Gerald Emeka Obielum, who spoke via zoom, said the Igbos outside Nigeria are with Mr President and are committed to his programmes which are geared towards changing the nation for better ..
The converner of the national leaders conference, Bassey James commended the Igbo youth leaders for coming together to mobilize their kiths and kin across the nation to support President Tinubu.
According to him, the Igbos are going to benefit most as the President is committed to creating a business atmosphere in Nigeria.
He said, “The best way is to join a national peace movement which he is championing. I enjoined them to put them together because the conference is scheduled for one of the Igbo states, Owerri in Imo staes after Abuja”.
