Speed Darlington Spends Christmas In Detention: Latest Update From His Lawyer
Nigerian singer Speed Darlington is set to spend Christmas in detention as his lawyer, Stan Alieke, provides an update regarding his legal situation...READ MORE…
the case involving Darlington and fellow artist Burna Boy has officially been brought to court. The singer was re-arrested in Owerri, Imo State, while returning to Nigeria for a performance.
After his arrest, Darlington was transferred from Owerri to the Police Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja, where he has remained in custody.
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, speaking exclusively to Naija News, suggested that there are powerful forces orchestrating Darlington’s arrest and detention, asserting that the actions of the Nigeria Police Force are infringing upon the singer’s rights. Adeyanju emphasized that Darlington had no intentions of fleeing; he had returned to Nigeria due to an emergency in the US.
Regarding efforts to secure Darlington’s release, Adeyanju stated, “We have just filed a fundamental rights proceeding at the Federal High Court to obtain his release.”
In a statement on Monday, Alieke informed that Darlington, also known as ‘Akpi’, was not arraigned in court last week due to judges attending a conference. He also noted that the courts are expected to close next week for the holiday season, resuming only in late January.
