Ologbondiyan’s Bold Call: Opposition Must Unite To Challenge Nigeria’s Failed Leadership

Kola Ologbondiyan, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for a united front among Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. In a statement on Monday, Ologbondiyan congratulated the Ghanaian president-elect, John Mahama, and lauded the NDC for its success. He noted the similarities between the NDC and Nigeria’s PDP, particularly in terms of their logos and party colors. He highlighted the importance of drawing lessons from Ghana’s election outcome, where the people decisively rejected a government that failed to address their needs.

Ologbondiyan stressed that Nigerians should stop making excuses for ineffective leaders and instead follow the example of Ghanaians, who demanded better governance. He added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, must learn from the transparency and voter engagement displayed in Ghana.

“We should learn from Ghana’s commitment to democracy, where votes truly counted,” he said. “In Nigeria, we’ve seen how elections can be manipulated, with some predicting the outcome long before the votes are counted. The ‘No Vacancy’ syndrome is a worrying trend that has plagued our elections, perpetuated by those who seek to cling to power at all costs.”

Ologbondiyan called on Nigeria’s opposition parties to unite, focusing on electoral reforms and continuous political education as critical steps toward securing a fairer and more accountable political future. He stressed that only through unity and reform can Nigeria emulate Ghana’s democratic success.
