field for the event.

At a press conference held on Friday in Ibadan, the association’s National President, Dr. Bayo Busari, alongside other prominent alumni, stated that the Ministry of Education, under the state government, authorized Agidigbo FM to hold the event, not the principal, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi.

This claim comes on the heels of the devastating stampede that claimed the lives of at least 35 children during a children’s carnival at the school on Wednesday. The principal, who was arrested in the wake of the tragedy, remains in police custody as of Friday evening.

Dr. Busari highlighted that official documents show that Agidigbo FM paid N360,000 to the state government last year to use the school field. He further revealed that the government had granted permission for the station to use the premises from November 2024 through October 2025.

The alumni expressed frustration at the continued detention of the principal while the owner of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, has not been arrested. Dr. Busari condemned the arrest, stressing that the principal had only advised the radio station to implement necessary safety measures, as per protocol.

“The principal did not approve the venue. It was the state government through the Ministry of Education that issued the approval,” Busari said, calling the ongoing detention a violation of the principal’s rights. “The owner of the media partner has not been arrested, yet the principal remains in custody.”

The alumni members are now calling for a fair investigation, urging the authorities to focus on the real culprits behind the tragedy.
