Sultan of Sokoto Joins Global Islamic Leaders at Oxford Summit as King Charles Declares Event Open
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Saad Abubakar III, was among distinguished Muslim leaders who convened at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in England for a high-level international summit celebrating the Centre’s 40th anniversary.
The landmark event, according to iReporter Online, also featured the Annual General Meeting of the Centre’s Board of Trustees and was officially inaugurated by the Centre’s Grand Patron, His Majesty King Charles III, during a ceremonious gathering in Oxford.
A statement released by Dr. Danladi Bako, a member of the Sultan’s delegation, highlighted that the summit attracted an elite roster of Islamic leaders and intellectuals from across the globe. Notable participants included former Turkish President Abdullah Gül, Saudi Prince Turki Al-Faisal, and Sultan Nazrin Shah of Malaysia — all of whom, alongside the Sultan, serve as members of the Centre’s esteemed Board of Trustees.
According to iReporter Online, the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies continues to play a central role in fostering interfaith dialogue, advancing Islamic scholarship, promoting sustainable development initiatives, and supporting Muslim youth in the UK through fellowships and academic opportunities.
Following the Board meeting, His Eminence Sultan Saad Abubakar III addressed the gathering, urging global citizens — particularly in Africa — to embrace peace, unity, and dialogue as foundational principles of coexistence. “Islam is a religion of peace,” the Sultan noted, emphasizing that mutual respect and harmonious living are more crucial than ever.
According to iReporter Online, the Sultan’s presence at the Oxford summit underscored Nigeria’s influential role in global Islamic diplomacy and reinforced his status as a leading voice for peace and interfaith understanding on the world stage.
