Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious persons, movements and activities to security agencies amid concerns over an alleged security threat in parts of the South-West.

According to Ireporter Online, the governor issued the directive following a security meeting involving the Department of State Services (DSS), Muslim leaders and representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Osun State.

The meeting reportedly focused on intelligence received by the DSS concerning an alleged plan by terrorists to infiltrate parts of the South-West and carry out violent attacks.

Information presented during the meeting reportedly suggested that the alleged plot was aimed at creating fear, discouraging citizens from participating in the electoral process and disrupting the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to the development, Governor Adeleke called on residents to take greater responsibility for security within their communities and maintain close communication with relevant security agencies.

He urged members of the public to promptly report unusual activities, suspicious individuals and unexpected movements of people within their neighbourhoods.

Adeleke said residents must provide useful intelligence to the police and other security agencies to enable them to identify and respond to potential threats.

The governor particularly urged residents to remain extra vigilant following reports of alleged plans to attack places of worship.

Adeleke also disclosed plans to convene a meeting of the State Security Council to assess the security situation and evaluate the effectiveness of the government’s response strategies.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between residents and security agencies, noting that timely information sharing could help prevent threats before they escalate.

The governor further called on traditional rulers across the state to engage their respective traditional councils on the security concerns and support efforts to maintain peace.
