Tinubu Appoints Olumode as New Head of Federal Fire Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Deputy Controller-General Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the incoming Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, effective August 14, 2025.

The announcement was conveyed through an official statement from the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), as monitored by iReporter Online. The statement, signed by the Board’s Secretary, Major General A.M. Jibril (retd.), confirmed that the appointment follows the mandatory retirement of the incumbent Controller-General, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji, who will exit the service on August 13 after attaining the age of 60.

Olumode, a seasoned officer with decades of experience in fire and emergency response, currently serves as Deputy Controller-General overseeing Human Resources at the Federal Fire Service headquarters. His career began with the FCT Fire Service before his transfer to the national command, where he rose steadily through the ranks.

According to the Board, Olumode has completed all required professional training courses, including command courses and specialized programs both within Nigeria and abroad. His qualifications are further strengthened by his affiliations with several prestigious professional organizations, including the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, the Institute of Corporate Administration, the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management.

The CDCFIB lauded the outgoing Controller-General, Engr. Jaji, for what it described as “remarkable contributions” to the service, citing his dedication and numerous initiatives that enhanced operational capacity and public safety during his tenure.

The appointment of Olumode is expected to mark a new chapter for the Fire Service, as the administration seeks to deepen institutional reforms across Nigeria’s emergency response and public safety sectors.
