Tinubu Saves Nigeria From Financial Ruin: ₦5.4 Trillion Petrol Subsidy Slashed!

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has praised President Bola Tinubu for saving Nigeria from spending ₦5.4 trillion on petrol subsidies in 2024. The governor highlighted that previous administrations were indirectly subsidizing fuel for neighboring African countries through these payments.

Speaking during a church service at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Abeokuta to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, Abiodun urged Nigerians to endure the current economic challenges, noting that President Tinubu is working to reposition the country for growth.

“The federal government, under the bold leadership of President Tinubu, swiftly implemented decisive measures to save the economy from bankruptcy. Removing the fuel subsidy, which would have cost ₦5.4 trillion by the end of 2024, was a necessary step,” Abiodun said.

He explained that the subsidy funds could now be redirected towards critical infrastructure projects, noting that the 2024 infrastructure budget is ₦6.7 trillion, while the subsidy would have consumed nearly as much if it had continued.

The governor also called on Nigerians to reject calls for protests on October 1st, urging them to engage constructively with the government. He emphasized the need for resilience and faith in God, while advising against actions that could lead to unrest and the destruction of public property.

“Let us pray, persevere, and avoid the flames of discord. We must work together with the government, knowing this administration is committed to inclusivity,” Abiodun concluded.
