Tinubu’s Minister Under Fire For Using Road Projects To Boost 2027 Election
Minister of Works, David Umahi, has sparked controversy on social media after implying that the launch of phase 1B of the long-awaited Sokoto-Badagry expressway could depend on political support in the upcoming 2027 elections..……CONTINUE READING
Ireporter reports that while addressing the people of Sokoto, Umahi suggested their backing was vital for the project’s continuation, linking road construction advancements to future campaign pledges.
He acknowledged that while road projects have been stalled for decades, President Bola Tinubu has finally taken steps toward the expressway, a proposal that dates back 48 years.
However, many Nigerians criticized the Minister, accusing him of using essential services as a political campaign strategy.
One user, cicarachichi, remarked, “It’s ridiculous for him to use basic infrastructure like roads as campaign propaganda for 2027.”
Another, chidinadi, added, “We should be building alternative transport systems like high-speed trains instead of roads that won’t last beyond a rainy season.”
Babanollywood commented, “After watching these videos, don’t they feel ashamed?”
Stanick 1 expressed, “Nigerian politicians are focused on the next election, while true leaders think about future generations. Northerners, be wise in 2027—vote for competent leaders, not just political parties.”
Humprey said, “The poor are often exploited in battles they didn’t initiate or control.”
Ayogujoshua lamented, “I believe this country can only progress when we hold these leaders accountable. How can you use unfinished roads for campaigning?”
Zoe_testimony wrote, “It’s hopeless. They have nothing good to campaign on.”
Temiarewa stated, “This is a disgrace to our nation and its current generation.”
Grateful_isaac added, “This government has no shame. It’s absurd!
