While the immediate family was too distraught to discuss the tragic occurrence, some locals mentioned that the deceased had previously expressed concerns about financial hardships.

Reports suggest that the late retiree was particularly distressed about the pension board’s alleged failure to pay him in full, opting for piecemeal payments. Additionally, he had complained about falling victim to fraudulent individuals cheating him out of his pension. The Benue State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the unfortunate incident.

In another distressing development, suspected herders reportedly attacked two communities, Ikpele and Okpokpolo, in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. The gunmen claimed the lives of two individuals, marking another wave of violence in the region.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a previous attack that resulted in the death of three soldiers and two others. The persistent security challenges continue to pose serious concerns for the affected communities and authorities alike.
