In a press statement issued through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari praised Onaiyekan as a guiding light in Nigeria’s journey towards democracy and progress.
Buhari acknowledged Onaiyekan’s steadfast commitment to serving the underprivileged and marginalized segments of society. The statement expressed Buhari’s enduring appreciation for Cardinal Onaiyekan’s support and collaboration in working towards the betterment of the nation, particularly in areas of social harmony, universal brotherhood, and inclusive development.
Meanwhile, Femi Adesina, former special adviser to ex-President Buhari on media and publicity, expressed concern over the misrepresentation of his book, ‘Working With Buhari,’ by some individuals. Adesina clarified that contortionists were distorting his statements, falsely claiming that he said Chief of Staff Abba Kyari denied him access to President Buhari for five years and that there was a government plot to assassinate Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Adesina emphasized that such claims were entirely contrary to the content of his book, which is written in English and provides an accurate account of his experiences working with President Buhari from 2015 to 2023.
