two-term governor of Ebonyi State, made this statement during a budget defense session with the House Committee on Works on Friday. He emphasized the need for a larger allocation to meet the country’s pressing road repair needs.

“We need more funds. N800bn is just not enough. It can’t solve our road problems. We urge you to reconsider and help us secure a bigger allocation,” Umahi pleaded with the committee.

He further highlighted that the current budget couldn’t accommodate the ministry’s ongoing and planned road projects across Nigeria. Umahi suggested that borrowing funds to boost infrastructure development would be essential, especially in times of economic downturn.

“In a recession, borrowing is necessary for infrastructural development. This is the key to pulling the nation out of hardship and creating jobs, from food vendors to those in construction. We need your support, and we need to invest in these projects for the prosperity of Nigeria,” Umahi stated.

In response, Committee Chairman Akin Alabi promised to summon the Minister of Finance and the Head of the Budget Office to address the concerns raised about the low funding allocation.
