US Senator Claims Maduro Arrested, Set To Face Trial In America
According to Ireporter Online, a United States senator has claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been taken into custody by U.S. operatives and is set to face criminal prosecution in the United States.
The claim was made on Saturday by Senator Mike Lee, who stated in a post on X that he had personally spoken with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio following what he described as “kinetic action” that occurred earlier in the evening.
Lee said Rubio informed him that the operation was conducted to enforce an arrest warrant against the Venezuelan leader. According to the senator, the military activity observed was intended to secure and protect U.S. personnel involved in executing the warrant.
He further asserted that the action likely fell under the inherent powers of former President Donald Trump as outlined in Article II of the U.S. Constitution, particularly in relation to safeguarding American personnel from imminent or actual threats.
The senator added that Rubio had indicated there were no plans for further military engagement in Venezuela following Maduro’s alleged arrest, noting that the situation was expected to de-escalate now that the president was reportedly in U.S. custody.
Lee’s remarks followed shortly after former President Trump announced that the United States had carried out what he described as a successful large-scale strike in Venezuela. Trump also claimed that Maduro and his wife had been captured and flown out of the country.
As of the time of filing this report, no official confirmation has been issued by the U.S. government regarding the arrest or the reported military operation.
