Renowned Nigerian disc jockey, Imohiosen Patrick, popularly known as DJ Neptune, has urged African creatives to take ownership of streaming platforms to harness the continent’s vast population and unlock greater economic potential within the entertainment industry.

According to Ireporter Online, the award-winning DJ made this call during an interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, where he emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among African creators.

DJ Neptune noted that Africa’s massive audience base provides an unmatched opportunity for creatives to benefit directly from their art if they collectively invest in indigenous digital platforms. “We, as African creatives, need to start thinking towards the direction of owning our own streaming platforms because we have the numbers,” he said.

He added that just a small percentage of Africa’s population streaming his music consistently would be enough to secure his career for life. “All DJ Neptune needs to sustain me for the rest of my career is probably just four to five per cent of that population constantly streaming my music, coming to my shows. I’m made for life, you know. We need to come together as one,” he stated.

Speaking further, the celebrated DJ underscored the growing importance of collaboration, describing it as the “new gold” of the creative industry. “You need to understand that collaboration right now is the new gold. When we go into the room as one voice, it makes the conversation more interesting and more beneficial to the creatives,” he explained.

DJ Neptune also reaffirmed his passion and drive for music, saying he remains as ambitious as when he started his career. “I’m still as hungry as when I started on the very first day, and the goal is to be celebrated as a global DJ from Africa, West Africa, Nigeria, to be precise,” he added.
