What My Son Told Me About Naira Marley That I Didn’t Believe – Mohbad’s Father
Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian rapper, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, has shared some of the things his son revealed to him about Marlian music boss, Naira Marley.
Mohbad tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, at the young age of 27.

In the wake of his death, there were allegations from some quarters that his former label boss, Naira Marley, had bullied and posed threats to Mohbad’s life while he was still alive. The police have since disclosed that they possess substantial evidence indicating that Mohbad was indeed subjected to bullying and harassment by Naira Marley and popular show promoter, Sammy Larry.
In a recent interview with BBC Yoruba, Mr. Joseph recounted how Mohbad once confided in him about Naira Marley, describing him as a deceitful and malevolent individual. Despite this revelation, Mr. Joseph admitted to doubting his son’s words, especially since he had personally witnessed Naira Marley sharing a meal with Mohbad during a visit to their home.
Mr. Joseph also accused Naira Marley of secretly recording their conversations without his knowledge or consent.
He said, “The first time NDLEA went to search their home and gave him water, it led to trouble. We settled the issue, so I went to their house to see his boss. What surprised me was my son was eating, and Naira Marley went to meet him, collected his spoon, and ate from his food in my presence. I was touched to the extent that I scolded my son for not doing the right thing to his boss, despite his love for him. But he told me that these people did not love me and that he knew them better than I did.
“I went to prostrate and beg Naira Marley as an elderly person, who wants the best for his son, who is already doing well in his music career. I asked him not to be angry about a video my son posted where he said Naira Marley should be held responsible if anything happened to him. But my son told me that he was living there, and that Naira Marley is evil, but I didn’t believe him. When I went to beg, I never knew they had put on a camera to record me.”
