Where Is Peter Obi As LP Constitutes Presidential Campaign Council Amidst Grumblings By Party Members
Is there a rift between the LP and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi? Why the apparent schism between the party and its presidential candidate?
Peter Obi and his running mate were noticeably absent when the LP today announced the formation of a 1,234-member Presidential Campaign Council.
This sparked hysterical rumours about the growing unhappiness between the party’s leaders and its presidential flagbearer.
If you can recall, on Saturday, October 8, 2022, there were numerous reports on social media of rumors circulating that the Labour Party’s leadership is against its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, regarding the alleged diversion of campaign donations to his personal account rather than the official party account.
Heretofore, some LP leaders accused Obi of not giving Shishi while simultaneously touring the world raising huge funds for his presidential campaign, despite the fact that his running mate Datti Ahmed was not taken along with him.
A frustrated LP leader once inquired as to the reasoning behind Obi allegedly receiving payments on his own and expending them at his discretion, hear him…
“Do you think running a presidential campaign is the same as running a Governor’s fleet of cars? Obi asserted that he does not pay for fuel when he is not transiting in one of his official vehicles.
Therefore, it may be reasonable to assume that Peter Obi will be managing this campaign by shopping and visiting the market himself.”
Although Peter Obi has since denied transferring campaign funds to his personal accounts, there is still unease among the party’s leadership, with the majority questioning the honesty of the funds raised.
To add insult to injury, the LP’s newly formed presidential campaign council has sparked even more controversy and reinforced the notion that the LP may be a regional party seeking relevance, as stakeholders are concerned about the Campaign team’s lopsided composition, which marginalizes the North.
They claim that the South takes up 70% of the slots, leaving the North at a disadvantage.
If you recall, there was a sudden old video that reappeared in which the former LP chairman accused Peter Obi of tearing down LP billboards and posters while he was the governor of Anambra State. Dan Nwanyanwu also claimed that Obi’s only investment was to open a brewery so that people would get drunk and start kidnapping Anambra citizens.
That indicting video was allegedly leaked by the current Labour Party Executives, who are opposing Peter Obi’s one-man leadership role.
What are your thoughts on the prospect of a major crisis within the Labour Party? Please leave your thoughts on this development.
