Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has reacted strongly to a controversial remark made by Femi Lazarus, the lead pastor of Light Nation Church, Abuja, concerning women and their menstrual cycles.

According to Ireporter Online, the clergyman recently drew widespread criticism after a video from one of his sermons circulated online. In the clip, Pastor Lazarus claimed that women’s mood swings during menstruation were not biological but rather a reflection of their attitude.

He reportedly stated, “You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person.”

The pastor’s comments immediately sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians accusing him of being insensitive to women’s experiences and dismissing the realities of menstrual pain.

Reacting via Instagram, Yvonne Jegede cautioned men against making assertions about issues they have never personally experienced. She criticized the clergyman’s statement, describing it as dismissive and uninformed.

“Yesterday I saw a trending video of a clergyman seemingly trivializing menstrual pain,” Jegede wrote. “If you’ve never experienced the hormonal changes women go through during their periods, ovulations, and pregnancy, please don’t make bold statements about things you haven’t experienced. Men, please be kind.”

While many social media users applauded Yvonne for standing up for women, others came to Pastor Lazarus’s defense, insisting that his words had been taken out of context. One user, Angie Joseph, commented, “He wasn’t trivializing menstrual pain. Kindly listen to the sermon to understand his context. My cramps are so bad that sometimes I end up in the hospital, but that doesn’t make me a mannerless person.”
