YYC Stands Firm In Support Of Prof. Yakubu, Rejects Moves To Undermine INEC

In a statement issued on Friday by its President, Eric Oluwole, the YYC expressed concerns about the timing of these calls, particularly with the Ondo State governorship election just around the corner, suggesting that they might be driven by political agendas.

Referring to the #YakubuMustGo hashtag trending on social media, the YYC condemned the attack on Yakubu’s integrity, accusing his detractors of trying to destabilize the electoral process for personal or political gain. They emphasized that such calls have arisen repeatedly before elections, causing unnecessary tension and undermining the credibility of INEC.

Oluwole praised Prof. Yakubu’s leadership, highlighting his commitment to impartiality, transparency, and accountability, which has helped strengthen Nigeria’s democracy. The YYC reiterated its full support for the INEC Chairman, asserting that his reforms have bolstered global confidence in Nigeria’s elections and contributed to reduced election-related violence.

The Council urged all patriotic Nigerians to reject the unfounded attacks on Prof. Yakubu and stand in solidarity with the progress Nigeria’s democracy has made under his leadership.
