Goals Scored By Messi Yesterday As Miami March Past Orlando (VIDEOS)
Lionel Messi continued his impressive form for Inter Miami, scoring two goals in a 3-1 victory over Orlando City in the Leagues Cup round-of-32 on Wednesday. This marked his fifth goal in three appearances for the team since joining them.
Despite a 95-minute delay due to a thunderstorm, Miami showed attacking intent from the start, with Messi opening the scoring by volleying home a well-placed ball from Robert Taylor. Orlando responded and equalized through Cesar Araujo.
Orlando’s defensive strategy focused on crowding out Messi and frustrating him, resulting in the Argentine receiving a yellow card for a foul. However, Miami found a way to take the lead again through a penalty won by Martinez. Later, Taylor set up Messi with a clever chip for his second goal, sealing the win and advancing to the last 16.
Former Barcelona star Jordi Alba made his debut as a substitute for Miami, while Miami’s right-back DeAndre Yedlin praised Messi’s impact on the team, instilling confidence and fear in their opponents.
Messi’s next match with Miami will be against FC Dallas in Texas, offering an opportunity to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament, which includes top-flight teams from Major League Soccer and Mexico’s Liga MX.
