The Super Falcons will face England in the round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria finished as runners-up in Group B with five points after a goalless draw with Ireland on Monday.

A day later, England defeated China 6-1 to confirm the matchup with Coach Randy Waldrum’s team.

England, the European champions, finished as winners of Group D with nine points, while Denmark secured six points to come second on the log. The Danes will play co-hosts Australia in the next game.

Nigeria’s round of 16 game against England is scheduled for Monday, August 7th, 2023, at 8:30 am.

This match will be the second meeting between both teams at the Women’s World Cup. England secured a 3-2 victory in a Group B battle when they first faced Nigeria at the 1995 edition of the competition held in Sweden.

This will be the third time Nigeria has reached the knockout phase of the World Cup. The first was in 1999 when they were eliminated by Brazil in the quarter-final. They also reached the round of 16 in the last edition held in France in 2019.

Despite England’s strong team and favorite status, Coach Waldrum expressed that his team is prepared to face any opponent, having already played against other strong teams like Canada and the host nation.
