Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, urged leaders at all levels to adopt a form of democracy that fosters prosperity rather than one that inflicts suffering on the people. He made this plea during the inauguration of the newly reconstructed 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin road in Oyo state.

Emphasizing the need for a democracy that alleviates poverty, ensures security, and reduces unemployment while delivering the dividends of democracy, Obasanjo emphasized that any form of democracy that fails in these aspects should be discarded.

Additionally, he encouraged Oyo State to invest in agriculture for food sustainability, suggesting a focus on cultivating specific crops that would set the state apart from others in the nation.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, in his earlier address, stated that the road construction and other related projects align with his administration’s goal of connecting all five zones in the state and addressing rural-urban migration. He also assured that his administration would continue to prioritize the completion of various road projects across the state, including internal roads.
