A recent Instagram post states: “Just In: DANGOTE CEMENT NOW N2,700 FROM 1st OCTOBER, 2023. Dangote crashes Cement Price from 5500 to 2700. Aliko Dangote has announced the new price of Cement crashed by 50%, from October 1st, from N5500 to N2700.”

Dangote Cement Plc, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, is one of Africa’s largest cement manufacturers and operates under the umbrella of the Dangote Group, established by billionaire Aliko Dangote.

Has Dangote Cement slashed the price of cement? We checked.

In August 2023, the company informed the media that the price range of cement was between N4,010 and N4,640. They further clarified that, inclusive of transportation costs, a bag of cement might amount to up to N5,300.

Additionally, Dangote Group refuted the social media assertion, with their spokesperson Anthony Chiejine categorizing it as “fake news”.
