Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, shared the video online, emphasizing that the agency could not afford to be sentimental about law enforcement. He revealed that the traders had been repeatedly warned to refrain from selling their goods on walkways, setbacks, or the main road due to the negative impact on the city’s aesthetics and safety concerns.

In his statement, Wahab explained, “We cannot be emotional about enforcement. We have severally warned that traders should desist from displaying or selling things on the walkway, setbacks, or main road. It defaces the city and majorly for people’s safety.”

Earlier on Friday, special operatives of the KAI/LAGESC dislodged street traders at various locations, including Agege Motor road, Old Secretariat GRA Ikeja, Awolowo way, Alausa Secretariat, Agidingbi Jakande road inward LTV 8, Ojodu Berger, and Fagba road.

In a separate incident, Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), reported that agency officials were attacked with weapons and charms during a routine monitoring exercise along Musical Village, Awolowo Road, in the Ikorodu area. The assailant held the staff hostage for hours, but law enforcement eventually apprehended the individual, who is now facing prosecution.

Oki expressed gratitude for the resilience and quick responses of the staff in overcoming the attack without casualties. He called on the public to support the agency’s mission to prevent building collapses in the state and stressed the importance of collaboration for ensuring the safety and integrity of structures. Oki acknowledged that incidents of harassment and attacks could undermine the agency’s monitoring activities and pose potential threats to the public.
